The UAE is well on its way to earning the position of the regional healthcare hub. And as October becomes popularised as Breast Cancer Awareness month, organizations have kickstarted their annual campaigns. Currently dominating the UAE healthcare industry is the Medcare Hospitals & Medical Centres campaign. They annually offer specialist packages focused on breast cancer screening and consultations with specialists.

UAE Healthcare Industry

This should come as no surprise to residents, who may be aware of the government’s efforts towards the UAE healthcare industry. It has invested heavily in its healthcare infrastructure. In fact, a study by CMC Hospital revealed that the nation has the strongest reputation for excellence in healthcare. This has also translated into breast cancer treatments and care.

The same study highlighted that UAE residents were inclined to switch healthcare providers, depending on availability and convenience. Perhaps that influences the fact that the UAE is the single highest spender on healthcare amongst GCC countries, with 5% of its annual GDP diverted to the industry. In all, the domain is expected to be valued at $3.59 Billion by 2030.

Breast Cancer in the UAE

Returning to breast cancer; it is the single most common type of cancer among women in the UAE. The leaders of the UAE healthcare industry stress that it is also one of the most curable if spotted early. This lends urgency and value to Medcare’s October campaign.

Besides, its necessity is underscored by the number. Medcare revealed that 10% of the women screened in 2023 discovered abnormalities that required investigation. Further, nearly 30% of them reported minor or benign abnormalities. As one of the leaders of the UAE healthcare industry, they aim to screen more than 700 women during the 2024 campaign.
