Understanding academic writing skills are essential for a student’s success both at university and in professional life. The session aims to give an understanding of the conventions of academic writing and to teach the components and benefits of the same.
Producing written work as part of a university assessment requires an approach to organisation, structure, voice and use of language that differs from other forms of writing and communication. Understanding more about the specific features of academic writing can help develop confidence and make improvements to the written word.
Academic writing is a complex process of finding, analysing and evaluating information, planning, structuring, editing and proofreading. This session intends to give an understanding of all the above-mentioned points.
Referencing is important to acknowledge that one is using the words or ideas of another author in their assessments. Referenced information strengthens arguments and adds credibility to the work. Our institution follows the Harvard Referencing system for its assessments.
